Design

The construction is based on the Architecture school in Ghent, it used to be a monestary. The in- flatable structure is a replica of the hallway of the university. In the centre of the hallway we added an open space where an piece of ice art will be placed.

he domed roof in the centre has a special grid made by the use of ropes. It based on the structure of Nervi`s designs. It also refers to the old monestary. Also the roof of the hallway has vaults. Fourteen ice columns, placed between the hallway and the centre space, carry the heavy domed roof.

In the centre of the pavilion we place 5 tubes with different diameter and hight. When you circulate in this space you can experience multiple different views and perspectives. The visitor will be surprised. There will be different light colors in the tubes, for the a nice atmosphere that also changes. We build the cylinders and attach it to the ground with ropes that we freeze in the ice. Afterwards we make the inflatable wet, so the water freezes and it`s possible to remove the plastic.
