A team of Dutch master students from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)
have made a design for world's first 3D printed ice construction! The gridshell will be
built from 15 - 21 December 2018 in Harbin, China. Follow us during the process at this site !
An international team of Dutch and Chinese students and professors from Eindhoven University of
Technology (TU/e), Summa College, the Netherlands, and Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT),
China, realized the largest ice shell ever after two years of preparation. On 10 January the tower
will be opened by the Dutch ambassador in China.
Our research started in 2003 when the first indoor igloo was built. From 2014 till 2017, we have built the world record for building the largest ice dome,the highest ice dome, Flamenco Ice Tower, Sagrada Familia in ice and bridge in ice. This year, we are going to work on a 3D printed grid shell in ice at Harbin Institute of Technology, China. Furthermore, our future plan is to build the ice house on Mars.

Students have to design a mega large polyhydric ice structure. The structure will be made by freezing a cable structure at the inside of an inflatable. After the cable structure can stand on it selve the inflatbable support structure at the outside can be removed en reused for new structures.Read More
Together with some Chinese students, we built a small igloo with a diameter of five to six meters and about meters high, which also warmed inside. The outer surface of this pilot-igloo must be cooled and we worked together with the company easycool, which also quoted a number of people to harbin. Also, there was a small tower of four feet high.Read more

A pedestrian bridge in wood based on Leonardo’s design has been built in Norway, as well as some small ice bridges. In the winter of 2016 a scale model of this bridge with a span of 50 meters will be created in ice in Finland. It will be the biggest single-span structure in ice ever realized.Read More
By realizing the Pykrete Dome project in January 2014, the world record for building the largest ice dome was set. The span of the dome was 30 meters, 5 meters more than the standing record at that time, which was held by T. Kokawa.Read More
